Mark your calendars now for the big Emerald City Bash at the Westport Public Library in Westport Connecticut on Friday March 14 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The entire family is invited this unique event. The party will include piano entertainment, costume characters and light snacks.

Interestingly, the library will be closed for the general public and open only for the Emerald City Bash. Just stop in, reservations are not required.

The Emerald City Bash is part of the WestportREADS 2008 celebration, and you guessed it, this year’s book is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Here are some the family oriented events that are planned for WestportREADS 2008:

• Saturday March 1, 2008 from 12 pm to 4 pm: WestportREADS kickoff featuring an afternoon of family fun. Crafts, activities, films, and special guests will get the celebration under way.
• Thursday March 13 at 7 pm: A showing of the film - The Wizard of Oz
• Friday March 14, 2008 from 7 pm to 9 pm: The Emerald City Bash
• Sunday March 16, 2008 at 2 pm: Family Book Discussion of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for elementary school age children and up with their families
• Monday March 17, 2008 at 7:30 pm: The Staples Players, the Staples High School Acting Group, will perform scenes from the musical The Wiz
