Romeo & Juliet: Staples Players

The extremely talented Staples Players in Westport Connecticut present their latest musical - Romeo & Juliet.

Opening night is tonight - April 25 at 7:30 pm with additional performances tomorrow April 26 at 7:30pm and a matinee on Sunday April 27 at 2:00pm. There will also be performances on Thursday May 1, Friday May 2, and Saturday May 3 all at 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Staples Players website and any remaining seats will be sold at the door on the night of the performances. Space is limited and tickets cos t $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Because of mature content children under 10 are not permitted to attend.

Pinkalicious Fundraiser for the Komen Foundation

A group of Westport Connecticut area parents have teamed up to bring Pinkalicious - The Musical to town. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Susan G. Komen for The Cure foundation to aid breast cancer research.

The performance promises an afternoon of entertainment for all ages. Following the show there will be opportunities to meet the performers, do face painting, arts and crafts, and more festivities.

The event will take place on May 3, 2008 at 2:30 pm at the Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield Connecticut. Tickets are available at www.komenct.org for $25 each. Additional contributions are welcome. Hansel & Gretel Opera - Free Concert

What a treat! The Boston Lyric Opera Company will perform the Hansel and Gretel Opera as part of the Free Young Person’s Concert Series tomorrow April 19, 2008.

The performances will take place at the Trinity Church at 651 Pequot Ave in Southport which is close to Westport Connecticut. Showtimes are at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

I did mention that this concert is FREE and is recommended for kids ages 5 to 17.

This is a wonderful introduction for children into the world of opera as most children are already familiar with this classic fairy tale and will be able to follow along.

This excellent concert is brought to us by Music for Youth, Inc. which is a non-profit organization that’s mission is to spread a love and understanding of classical music amongst today’s youth and the Pequot Library. And it is natural that a performance of this caliber would be underwritten by the New England Foundation for the Arts and Westport Connecticut’s own Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

Mary Ann Hall’s popular Music for Children and Saugatuck Nursery School in Westport Connecticut have teamed up to bring you a family concert featuring Emily Hall and the Hallaballoos. Friday night April 25, 2008 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. is the date. Saugatuck Nursery School in Westport Connecticut is the place.

Kidstock Children’s Concert in Weston

Children in Westport Connecticut and the surrounding areas are in for a treat - the fourth annual Kidstock Concert. Two award winning performers - Princess Katie and Racer Steve will delight audiences of all ages with a mix of rock, funk, and swing music. In addition, Danny Magic will perform after the show.

The concert will be held on February 2, 2008 at 2:00pm in the cafetorium in the Weston Intermediate School and is being presented by the Weston Women’s League. Proceeds will help support the children’s programs of 3 local organizations.

Thrills & Chills Concert Event

On Sunday February 10th at 2:30 pm at Staples High School in Westport Connecticut there will be a concert event for parents and kids called Thrills & Chills. This concert is presented by Classical Music for Kids.

Two recorder artists, Horacio Franco and Nina Stern, will be playing classic Barouque music on real 18th century instruments. The concert will be directed and conducted by Thomas Crawford. This is a cultural event for the whole family, and provides a nice introduction to classical music for children.

All proceeds will go to support Classical Music for Kids and the Westport Historical Society. For more information you can visit the Westport Historical Society website or the American Classical Orchestra website. In addition to the standard tickets, there will be an Instrument Petting Zoo prior to the concert (beginning at 1 pm). Although the Petting Zoo requires an additional fee, it is a wonderful opportunity for the children of Westport Connecticut to see the real instruments up close.
